When there's an employment relationship — on autopilot
Payoll
Payroll calculations, payslips and filings, automatically. Managing an employment relationship becomes easy.
How do you know which model is right?
The dividing line is actually clearer than its reputation suggests. When a worker operates independently — using their own tools, setting their own schedule and working for multiple clients — that's typically independent work, and the freelance model fits: the worker invoices through Truster and no employment relationship is created. When you instead direct and supervise the work, set working hours and the worker operates as part of your organisation, those are signs of an employment relationship — and then the right tool is Payoll.
If it's unclear, you don't have to guess: we'll go through your situation in a demo and tell you plainly which model fits which role. Often the answer is both — a permanent core team on Payoll and a flexible edge on the freelance model.
Choosing the wrong model is a costly mistake either way: a disguised employment relationship brings employer contributions payable retroactively, and an unnecessary employment relationship ties you to fixed costs you don't yet need. That's why it pays to draw the line carefully from the start — and why we'd rather help with that upfront than afterwards.
What comes off your plate
Payslips
Payslips and deductions are calculated and delivered automatically.
Filings and payroll overheads
Statutory filings and payments are handled on time — no checklists needed.
Contracts
Electronic signatures via Secure Mail — legally valid and paperless.
Insurance
In the freelance model, workers are insured through Truster.
What do you actually save?
The real cost of payroll isn't a software license — it's time and mistakes. Every pay period means calculations, filings, deadlines and exceptions — and every mistake means cleanup afterwards. In the freelance model, this work disappears entirely: you pay the invoice, and Truster handles the worker's pay, taxes and filings within its own relationship with the worker.
With Payoll, the work doesn't disappear — it gets automated: wages are calculated, payslips are delivered and statutory filings go out on time without anyone having to watch the calendar. In both models, the end result is the same — payroll stops being the thing that derails your week.
The savings aren't just hours — they're also risk: a late filing, a miscalculated payroll cost or a forgotten insurance policy always costs more than avoiding it would have. An automated process does the same thing the same way every time — and leaves a trail that holds up under audit.

Payslips and statutory deductions — always available, no email chasing.

A month in practice
What does everyday life look like when Truster handles your payroll? With the freelance model: workers invoice for their completed work through the app, you optionally get one consolidated invoice per month with a breakdown by worker, you pay it — and that's it. A new worker can get started in minutes, with no onboarding to a payroll system needed.
With Payoll: your employees see their payslips and deduction breakdowns in their own app, questions decrease and payday runs on autopilot. The only thing left on your calendar for payroll is approval.
For workers, the experience is just as straightforward: pay arrives on time, expenses and mileage are logged through the app, and HetiPalkka gives flexibility if money is needed before the invoice due date. Satisfied workers stay — and that's ultimately the most important measure of payroll.
Start small, expand with confidence
Overhauling your payroll can feel like a big decision, but it doesn't have to be: many of our customers start with one team or one freelancer and expand once the model has proven itself in their day-to-day work. Getting started doesn't require a system project — the freelance model works immediately, and Payoll is rolled out in a controlled way together with us.
Book a demo, and in 15 minutes we'll go through your current process and show what the same thing would look like with Truster — with your number of workers and your rhythm, in euros and hours.
Frequently asked questions
When should I choose the freelance model, and when Payoll?
If the worker operates independently on their own terms and with their own tools, the freelance model fits — no employment relationship is created. If instead you direct and supervise the work in the manner of an employment relationship, you need an employment relationship — and Payoll makes managing it easy.
What obligations do I avoid with the freelance model?
Since no employment relationship is created, you don't have payroll calculations, payroll overheads, filings or employer insurance — you just pay the worker's invoice.
Can I use both models side by side?
Yes — many companies pay permanent staff via Payoll and use the freelance model for projects and busy peaks.
