How do I close the sole trader service?

Contents

You can close the Truster Pro Light service whenever you want. Closing is not a self-serve action in the app, because the bookkeeping has to be cut off in a controlled way and the bookkeeping materials have to be delivered to you. That is why closing starts with a support request.

When to use this: This article is about closing the sole trader service. If you only want to change accountants, see I want to use another accountant. Cancelling the Truster Light monthly subscription is a different matter and can be done in the app, see Cancelling the subscription.

1Separate the two things

Closing the service and ending your business are two different things, and they are worth deciding separately. You can close the service and continue as an entrepreneur with another accountant, or end the business as well.

  1. Closing the sole trader service means Truster no longer handles your bookkeeping or your filings.
  2. Ending the Business ID means your business activity ends entirely.
  3. Decide which one you want first, and tell us in the support request.

2Create a support request about closing

Closing starts by telling us your intention. We agree the fiscal-period cut and deliver the bookkeeping materials so the transition is controlled.

  1. Create a support request in the app under "Support Requests".
  2. Tell us whether you want to close only the service or end the business too.
  3. Give your preferred closing date, if you have one.

Do not cancel your payment card or delete the app instead of closing properly: the fiscal-period cut and the final filings would be left undone, and the responsibility for them is yours.

3Note the costs

Closing the service does not itself cost anything. One exception is worth knowing in advance.

  1. If you end the subscription before six months have passed since the registration, Truster may charge the normal price of registering the business (EUR 140) retroactively.
  2. Check your own registration date before closing if needed.

4After closing

Once the service is closed, responsibility for the bookkeeping and the filings moves to you or to your new accountant. Two things are still worth remembering.

  1. Revoke the Suomi.fi mandates you granted to Truster once the transfer is done.
  2. Keep the bookkeeping materials you received: bookkeeping material is subject to a statutory retention period.
