Getting Started Guide

A guide for new light entrepreneurs

Step 1: your account, ready in minutes

Download the Truster app or open it in your browser and verify your identity with your online banking credentials. Your tax card is fetched automatically, so your account is ready to invoice right away — no forms, no waiting, no fees. There's nothing to decide in advance: the account carries no obligations and costs nothing if you don't invoice.

Step 2: your first invoice

Agree with your client on the work and the price — in writing, even just a message is fine. To create an invoice you only need three things: who, what, and at what price. For business clients, company details are pulled straight from the Business Information System (YTJ) using the Business ID (Y-tunnus), and VAT is added automatically and correctly. Before you send it, you'll see exactly how much you'll take home, down to the euro.

After you send it, everything else is handled for you: Truster monitors the payment, sends reminders if needed (Maksuvahti), and pays you as soon as the payment arrives — or even earlier with HetiPalkka. Log your receipts and mileage as they come up.

Step 3: price your work sustainably

The most common mistake beginners make is pricing their hourly rate the same as an employee's hourly wage. An entrepreneurial rate needs to cover holidays, pension contributions, equipment and quiet weeks too — as a rule of thumb, it should be noticeably higher than the equivalent salaried hourly wage. Our calculator shows you instantly what you'll take home from different invoice amounts, so you can price based on facts instead of guesswork.

Step 4: get covered

Truster Turva — accident, liability and legal expenses insurance — comes with your gigs automatically, courtesy of the service. As your work becomes more regular and your earnings grow, the app will let you know when it's time to set up YEL pension insurance, and you can activate it right in the app in minutes. So insurance matters don't require any upfront research from you — they come up exactly when they're relevant.

Step 5: grow at your own pace

Once your invoicing becomes steady, a fixed monthly price becomes cheaper than commission — just remember to activate it before starting the billable work and keep it active until you're paid. And whenever the time comes for your own Business ID, our sole proprietorship (toiminimi) service handles the setup and bookkeeping, carrying your history over with you.
