VAT change 2026: the reduced rate is now 13.5%
From the start of 2026, the reduced VAT rate dropped from 14% to 13.5%. The reduced rate covers items such as groceries, restaurant and catering services, books, medicines, sports services, and tickets to cultural and sporting events. The standard rate remains 25.5%.
What does this mean for you?
If you sell services under the reduced rate — for example, sports services as a personal trainer or coach — you'll invoice at the 13.5% rate from 1 January 2026 onward. Make sure your price list and invoice templates are up to date. In the Truster app, the VAT rates are always set correctly: just choose the rate that matches your sale, and both the invoice and the VAT reporting go through correctly.
Background: in 2025, many products and services that had previously been taxed at 10%, such as books, medicines and sports services, moved to the 14% rate, and in 2026 that rate dropped to 13.5%. You can always find the current rate lists on the Finnish Tax Administration's website, vero.fi.
